While visiting Miami, we took a little excursion to the amazing
Everglades National Park. It was only a 45 minute drive from Miami Beach, but it was like stepping onto a different planet. Unfortunately, the ecosystem there is under severe pressure from the water demands of Miami and southern Florida - it may not be around for the next generation to enjoy. Go there while you still can!
This is not really an everglades shot, but this is right outside of the park. And I mean *right* outside. These huge tracts of farmland border the park all along it's eastern edge. All runoff from these giant mega-farms flows right trough the park. Let's hope that it is just clean water with no pesiticides... sigh...
Go see the Everglades while you still can. It won't be the same in 20 years.
